Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Explicit Education for?

Anyone. Explicit Education works to meet learner’s needs within their own context! Some examples of groups who would benefit from Explicit Education include:

  • Organizations, businesses and non-profits

  • Teachers, parents, school administration, homeschool teachers, babysitters

  • Youth within extra-curricular or community groups

  • Unions, health authorities, committees, post-secondary courses

  • Individuals or private groups looking for professional development

Why does this matter?

Education on sexuality and diversity, equity, and inclusion fosters understanding of others and ourselves.

This knowledge encourages curiosity, helps challenge shame, and addresses discomfort on difficult topics.

Explicit education equips individuals with the skills to be curious, participate safely, and think critically.

These abilities are crucial for creating an inclusive and informed community.

What are your qualifications?

Krys, your main facilitator, has ten years of experience in social services. During this period, Krys took on leadership roles focused on facilitating and supporting vulnerable groups such as youth, people with disabilities, women fleeing gender-based violence, people struggling with mental health and substance use, people involved in the criminal justice system and veterans.

Krys holds an undergraduate degree in sociology, a master’s degree in leadership and a graduate certificate in sexual health.

Krys has gained extensive knowledge of sexuality and diversity, equity, and inclusion through education, professional experience, and personal lived experience as a queer individual who grew up witnessing intimate partner violence, substance use and spending time in foster care.

What's with the "Explicit" in Explicit Education?

The name ‘Explicit Education’ was chosen to demonstrate what to expect when you work with us. The education you will receive is clear, accessible, and relevant.

Explicit also functions as an ironic play on words, since it is commonly used as a warning when engaging with media related to sex. By promoting openness and conversation about sex, Explicit Education intentionally questions this typical caution through its name.

Even though explicit can also mean directness when sharing information, you have nothing to worry about - we are very nice!

I have an idea for a training or workshop, but I don’t see it listed

That’s fantastic; we would love to chat about your ideas and how we can collaborate to meet your learning needs. Please get in touch by following the prompts on the Contact page, or scroll to the bottom of this page to find our email and phone number.

How do I schedule a workshop?

After you’ve purchased your workshop, we will be in touch with you via email to schedule a time that works for both of us.

Is the sex education age-appropriate?

Yes. The sex education provided is aligned with the BC PHE curriculum and the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada’s guidelines for Comprehensive Sex Education.

All sex education is presented in an accessible, trauma-informed manner.

A few notes:

  • Explicit Education does not offer sex education within school-based settings

  • Explicit Education does not teach abstinence-based sex education.

  • Explicit Education’s approach to sex education is grounded in human rights and will discuss a range of identities relating to sexuality, including, but not limited to, 2SLGBTQ+ experiences.

What is diversity, equity and inclusion?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (or DEI) is a framework, outlook, and topic that focuses on everyone’s right to be treated fairly and with respect. This is particularly vital for individuals whose identities or characteristics might prevent them from accessing certain resources or have resulted in human rights violations.

Discussing how DEI can be applied across various settings is essential, but the workplace provides a good starting point. By promoting DEI, we can foster a safe and inclusive environment for all, supporting education and initiatives to achieve this goal.
